Regarde moi

2019. Documentary. 11 min

“Try to explain, as if you were the First Man; What did you see? What did you love? What did you gain? What did you lose?”

A group of young women in Tunis dream of possible futures by exploring myths of the past. As the moon grows larger and flowers bloom both day and night, a tarot reading tells the story of a journey where a choice has to be made.

The project is an exploration of personal methods of directing and looking at the world through my camera. I worked with the dramatical structure of a journey as method, and with creating a precise framework of rules, conditions and intentions for creating scenes. Thematically I explored my own experiences of being a female artist; both being able to create art, but also to create and carry life, and the immediate contradictions of the two possibilities.

Through meeting young female participants along my journey with my personal story, questions and visual notes, and letting them guide me to stories, locations, myths and dreams of their own, the film is an exploration of femininity and creation.

Shot in Tunis during May 2019. Produced during the MFA programme at The Norwegian Film School.
